Cytarabine |
4-amino-1-β-D-arabinofuranosyl-2(1H)-pyrimidinone |
(CAS 147-94-4) |
 |
Description: |
Cytarabine is a nucleoside analog that differs from cytosine by the presence of a hydroxyl group at the 2’ position of the sugar residue. It is triphosphorylated in vivo to produce ara-CTP, a competitive inhibitor of DNA polymerases α and β (Kis = 4 and 32 µM, respectively). At low concentrations, ara-CTP is incorporated into DNA, slowing but not stopping DNA synthesis. Cytarabine is effective in the treatment of leukemias. It can also have antiviral actions on certain types of viruses.
