Maraviroc is an antagonist of the C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5), inhibiting binding of the ligand RANTES with an IC50 value of 1.4 nM.Because human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) uses CCR5 to enter monocytes and macrophages, maraviroc inhibits HIV-1 replication in CCR5-expressing cells (IC50 = 2.8 nM). The pharmacokinetics of maraviroc in healthy male subjects have been delineated.
