Description: |
Bupropion Hydrochloride is a unicyclic, aminoketone antidepressant.
Target: Dopamine Reuptake; Norepinephrine Reuptake
Bupropion is a second-generation antidepressant, with a mechanism of action different from most antidepressants, in that it is a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor [1]. Bupropion is approved for use in major depression and seasonal affective disorder and has demonstrated comparable efficacy to other antidepressants in clinical trials. Bupropion is also useful in augmenting a partial response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressants, although bupropion should not be combined with monoamine oxidase inhibitors [2]. Bupropion has demonstrated efficacy comparable to that of other antidepressants [3].
