Rosuvastatin is a competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase with IC50 of 11 nM.
HMG-CoA reductase is the rate-limiting enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthetic pathway and the target of the “statin” class of cholesterol-lowering drugs.Rosuvastatin is a synthetic statin that inhibits HMG-CoA reductase with an IC50 value of 5 nM.With a maximal effective dose at 40 mg/day, rosuvastatin was shown in the STELLAR clinical study to be more effective than atorvastatin, simvastatin, or pravastatin in decreasing LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol.
